SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.
  • Don't ride too close to the person in front. If they crash into a badger, you'll need time to swerve.

Christmas dinner?

It's about time we thought about a date and a venue for a Christmas do. I know from experience that finding a venue can be a challenge, depending on what day of the week you want.

So, here are a few questions to ponder:

Do you want a Christmas do?
If so, when do you want it?
Any preferences on location?
Are you prepared to organise it?

Here's my tuppence worth
Not on Friday 14th December
I won't be organising anything, I'll be out of the country for 3 weeks from Monday but you can probably count me in (unless you settle on the 14th)

Re: Christmas dinner?

TBH Tony, it's all a bit bleak at the moment with various splinter groups and bollocks. Let's agree a date...I propose a wednesday...because it isn't a Tuesday or a Thursday. Not sure whether pastey wants to be let off this year...OR ....what about a day away/overnight ride/pub/shower/pub/(food of choice)/pub/sleep type thing?
Some of us are now approaching 35 and so need guiding??11111???

Re: Christmas dinner?

I'm up for a Wednesday evening, that way I can get out of my turbo training night (which due to reasons far too complicated to explain, is no longer on tuesday or thursdays).

Re: Christmas dinner?

I am up for a Christmas dinner. Tues weds or Thurs

Re: Christmas dinner?

I’m up for Christmas dinner.
Have way too few hours in the day to organise it, sorry.
I’m prepared to do my best to fit in with what ever everyone else chooses to do.
Based on last nights performance an overnight ride would not be good for me.
Choice of day, Monday - not good
Tuesday- ok
Wednesday - ok
Thursday - ok
Friday - better but not likely to be an available venu.

Re: Christmas dinner?

Alison and I are definitely up for Christmas dinner. Same thoughts as Tom and Pat - Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday best.

Re: Christmas dinner?

Hi all,
Yes up for Christmas dinner too and a Tues, Weds or Thurs works well for me too.

We don't we set up a quick survey monkey to see which date works out best? Any IT guru's out there???

Cheers
Geordynige

Re: Christmas dinner?

May I suggest wednesday 5th, thursday 6th or wednesday 12th of december? I am away from the 13th. I have started a poll called the "cammtb forum reader's international christmas dinner of fine cuisine". If that sounds like your thing you can submit responses.

https://doodle.com/poll/h7t7pn9wae65awi6

If the survey gets some hits within the week I will find a reasonable pub and book a table at some kind of restaurant for an optimistic estimated number but that's where my organizational contributions will come to and end.

@Norm - if you are up for it, lets discuss an upfront payment :grinning:

Are you offering to pay for me up front. Many Thanks. Please send Pasty to track me down mid-summer for cash.

Re: Christmas dinner?

In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem... if no one else can help... and if you can find them... maybe you can hire... Norm

Re: Christmas dinner?

Hi Pat,

I have no idea what you are on about, but it makes me picture people with characteristics such as speed, agility, discretion. I have no idea how this picture relates to norm, or is in anyway relevant to Christmas dinner. Please elaborate.

Ain't it obvious?

Re: Christmas dinner?

Looking forward to this!

Hope to be in the Red Lion for  by 19:00 hrs bus permitting. (Comberton contingent: I think that bus is due 18:36 onwards).

Re: Christmas dinner?

Marvelous!

A reminder that for early arrivals - lets get a drink in the Red Lion first, and head over to Green Man for dinner at 1930.

Re: Christmas dinner?

There will be an award for everyone tonight and indeed some will get an extra award now that Brad and Dom have cried off.

Who could possibly be our Unlucky Alf now?
