SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

Dear All
Some of you will remember Marc-Andre (AKA the Bear); the crazy French Canadian gigolo scientist who resided among us for a few years back in the good ol' days.
Well, he's back! Well, coming back for a few days this week at least...

So, Thursday's ride looks like a good opportunity for him (and me for that matter) to make a rare guest appearance with CamMTB.

I know it's an early shout, but given the holidays, etc, who is likely to be around?

Clearly we have some catching up to do, so plenty of pub time is essential...

We're also considering a Saturday ride at Thetford (BCP) if anyone's interested. Probably around the middle of the day, but unconfirmed at the moment.

Please post if you're up for one, other or both...

Cheers!

Mark T

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

Hi Mark, yes should be out Thursday, but away on Saturday

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I am planning on riding.

Given the Bear is out of hibernation I suggest we postpone Bartlow or Bust for a week and head to the Three Horseshoes in Stapleford instead.

See you all Thursday

Paul

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I'll rock up too

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

Yep, up for both of those, just like old times 🐻
Hope he still has a 26er just for the full retro vibe!

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

Yup - me. Looking forward to catching up with The Bear again.

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I should be out for the ride too, will be good to see you out again Mark :)

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I have visitors tonight so won't be out, which is a shame as I'll miss the mythical Tallack

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I myth you too, Tony...

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

Great ride last night and so good to catch up with The Bear - almost a full South Downs 2006 reunion!

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I enjoyed the evening. Good chat in the pub and some high speeds on the way to it.

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I bet you had the bit of South Downs rock for tw*tting your rear cassette in your camelback too Pasty🥴
Great ride last night good pub banter too. Can we kidnap the Bear and bring him out on a regular basis-I’m sure he wouldn’t mind!

Re: Return of the Bear - Thursday's Ride...

I believe Richard Mills will be back in town for a couple of nights in the next couple of weeks, so there will be an opportunity for us all to feel small again.
I may even try and make it to the pub.
