SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Re: joining in

Hi James,
Welcome to the world of Mountain biking!

We meet up every Thursday evening (and some Tuesdays during the summer)at 7.30pm in central Cambridge outside the Japas Sushi restaurant CB2 1HN (formerly known as the Cross Keys pub) at Brookside, Cambridge. We ride out on the permitted trails around the Cambridge area, finishing at a pre-set pub at approximately 9-10pm.

More info can be found here
www.cammtb.co.uk

Are you new to cycling? How far do you usually ride? Do you have reasonable lights?

If you are new I would be more than happy to take a ride with you and fill you in on the details
Duncan.

Re: joining in

Hi Duncan,

Many thanks for the response with all the info.

I used to do quite a lot of cycling (both road and MTB), but have done less in the last few years. It's mostly just been a 7 mile commute recently, so not sure what form my legs are in.

I also do have an tolerable set of lights.

James
