SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.
  • Don't ride too close to the person in front. If they crash into a badger, you'll need time to swerve.

Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

Next week we're down for Gt Wilbraham and i'd like to suggest a change - Not to the 3 Horseshoes in Comberton, but something much closer to our house than way-out-East.

My request is based in the fact that next Thurs is the very day that i join most of you in the ranks of the 50-somethings, and I'd like to have a pint or two with you all after the ride to celebrate/commiserate. However, earlier that evening i'm currently planning to spunk shed loads of cash on whichever of Cambridge's top-end restaurants will have me (and my family, of course) so won't be available until later. Setting off solo from Comberton to Gt Wilbraham late ain't going to happen. My top choice, as it seems to be open, would be the Hoops in Barton, but Grantchester/Hardwick/Coton/Trumpington also work, perhaps others.

Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

Yup, I'm up for swapping the pubs around, given the gravity of the occasion.

PT

PS - you are getting all of the beers in, though, aren't you Norman?

Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

I might get a round in !

Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

If I reply to this will it go to the top of the list?

As Tom says, we must act is such a grave situation. So change Thursday's pub to The Hoops in Barton?
I intend to be out, wherever we go.

Norm's Birthday. Count me in.Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

The Hoops or whatever. I plan to ride. TomR

Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

Anyone got any route ideas that avoid mud and puddles?

I'll be out

Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

I’ll be out, the chances of staying mud free are pretty remote unfortunately unless we road it most of the evening☹️

Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

i will join you for a ride to whichever pub we end up at.

Re: Thurs 12th Jan - Route change request

I'll be out tonight.
