HIstory of drinking

I am looking for books on the History of drinking in america as well as the developement of the Bar/tavern/Saloon. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: HIstory of drinking

Saloons of the old West, Richard Erdoes
Straight up or on the rocks, william Grimes
The Cocktail, Joseph Lanza
Up in the Old Hotel, Joseph Mitchell

Come immediatley to mind. Also articles/books by Mardee and Gary Regan

Re: Re: HIstory of drinking

The best books I have found are "The Stork Club Bar Book" and "The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book". These books have great recipes and lots of history too. They are available at Amazon or at Cocktailbooks.com

Re: HIstory of drinking

My history of drinking:
I Drank, I Got Drunk, I Fell Down, No Problem.
Tomorrow I repeat this.
