Eclipso foils Wright's title bid

Eclipso foils Wright's title bid!
By ANDY FLORA - Special to The News-Post

"The Legendary' Eclipso once again outsmarted Mr. Jamie Wright to win the Texas Death Match as American Championship Wrestling (ACW) returned to the Rocky Mount National Guard Armory Saturday night.
In one of the most brutal matches in recent ACW history, both competitors used a variety of objects to gain the upper hand. Eclipso landed a shot with a roll of coins in his hand early in the match that floored Wright.
Wright recovered and with a leather belt he brought to the fight landed many shots across Eclipso's back that left large lashes on the champ's skin. The match continued with both competitors using a variety of weapons which included a 50-foot leather strap, chain, and Eclipso's famous baseball bat.
With Wright finally gaining the advantage, Eclipso went to his manager, Douglas J Wentworth III Esq., and got a handful of white powder to blind Wright.
As Eclipso tossed the powder into Wright's eyes, Wright ducked and the powder landed into referee Ric Petty's eyes. Eclipso upset at missing his target, was distracted enough to not see a devastating super kick delivered by Wright.
Wright went for an apparent victory, but the blinded Petty could not deliver the three count.
Wentworth jumped to the ring apron and tried to get Eclipso to his feet, while a concerned Wright was trying to get the referee back to his feet.
Eclipso, analyzing the situation, grabbed Wright by the hair and threw Wright into Wentworth. On contact, both men's heads collided and knocked each of them off their feet. Eclipso quickly went for the pin and a recovered Petty delivered the three count.
A disappointed crowd once again was denied seeing the rookie get the gold. "What is everyone so unhappy about? I told you that I would win tonight. What made it so good is I did it in front all his fans and his mama," Eclipso said after the match. Then, Eclipso limped to the locker room in apparent pain.
During the match, Eclipso's leg became tangled in the ropes stretching his knee ligaments. To make matters worse Wright attacked the leg while it was twisted. Wentworth later said there is major concern that the injury to Eclipso's knee could be a career-threatening one.

In other action:

"Col. Spud Wade had a great night as he captured two titles. First, Wade defeated Franklin County's own Hillbilly Helbert to capture the Universal television championship. Helbert delivered his signature move, a sidewalk slam, for the apparent win, but Helbert was too close to the ropes during the pin attempt and Wade placed his foot on the rope to break up the count.
While Hillbilly argued the decision, a recovered Wade quickly rolled Helbert and with the help of the corner ropes pinned the former champ to gain the victory.

"Wade returned for the next bout and introduced to the crowd the new tag team he formed called The Bad Dogs. Wade was accompanied by Robbie Lynn who had teamed with Eddie Loco in the past to capture tag team gold. Lynn was outfitted in different attire and went by the name Private Lynn. Before the match began, Wade informed the crowd that Lynn needed discipline and made Lynn sweep the ring and do pushups.
American Made Scott Weddle and Foxy Roxy, the ACW Universal tag-team champions, entered the ring to take on the new duo. Lynn carried most of the load during the match with Wade correcting every mistake he made, often with a slap to the head.
Roxy had control of the match for her team when he delivered a top rope splash onto Lynn. Wade came into the ring to break up Roxy's pin attempt. Weddle entered the ring to give Roxy a hand when the referee stopped his advance.
While the referee was distracted, Wade grabbed the television championship belt he had just won and crowned Roxy on top of the head. Then, Wade quickly tagged Lynn and covered Roxy with the use of his feet on the ropes to get extra leverage for the three count.

"Sgt. Jim Nelson defeated the Masked Mauler by disqualification. The contest was more of a brawl than a wrestling match and the action spilled out of the ring. Referee Petty started to deliver a 10 count when Nelson just made it back into the ring while Petty counted out the Mauler.

"Big Yella, returning from an attack in the parking lot by an unknown assailant, pinned Eddie Loco after a devastating spear.

"Wentworth continued his crusade to get Rocky Mount Mayor Steve Angle to attend an ACW event and confront him. "If the mayor does not attend our next event, I will go to his office to confront him. All I want to do is have a friendly talk," Wentworth said.

ACW sponsored by We Care of Franklin County returns to Rocky Mount soon.

Tickets will be on sale at all usual outlets.
