Re: Support for GETS UK ....

Thanks Jackie for your support.
First time I have read the Banta Bar for sometime now - Christmas and work pressures etc.

But I understand GTS/GETSuk have had some criticism in other areas - I don't want to see them though.
No charity is perfect, and perhaps we do make mistakes at times - but we all try so hard as unpaid volunteers - and it is disheartening at times.

Having, like all our trustees, booked and paid from my own monies for my flight, accommodation and will meet all my own expenses for my next visit in March to monitor our progress I now have had to fork out a further £195 for additional jabs as I am going up country. My choice I know - but like the many people on this site who try to help Gambia in their own way, I do find it galling at times to know our efforts sometimes fall on waste ground.

I feel better now!
Thanks again Jackie.
Julie

Re: Re: Support for GETS UK .... to Julie

Thanks for taking time to reply. It's a tough world full of lots of people with often unrealistic expectations and it's usually those same people who prefer to moan and whinge rather than actually taking action. I'm sure you and the new US President are only too aware of this lol.

We'll be visiting Gambia again at the end of March so perhaps our paths will cross.

Good luck with the charity!

Re: Re: Re: Support for GETS UK

Those of us, like Julie, who do our best to support GETSuk's work were absolutely delighted to read this tribute from a Gambian.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Support for GETS UK - Dawn

That's the same tribute as my opening post but it's nice to read it twice, Dawn :-)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Support for GETS UK - Dawn

I think a lot of people, me included, do not want to get involved in any nastiness, and arguing. I will say this though. Once one decides to take action and actually DO something you are ****ed. ****ed for what you do and for what you don't do.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Support for GETS UK - Dawn

Fran - you have a problem with the word ****?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Support for GETS UK - Dawn

I give up and wont contribute any more. I was trying to say - without any offensive expletives - that if you try to help, people still attack you for what you do or do no do.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Support for GETS UK - Dawn

No - I have no problem with the word ****? If you have had problems expressing ypourself with teh use of such, then I am sorry maybe Bravenet who host teh Banta ba have filters that are rejecting some of the content of your postings - but not me !!!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Support for GETS UK - Dawn

I wasn't really aware that it was an expletive. The Qu'ran and the Bible use it, so presumably Bravenet would also ban those.
