Wish we could go back....I used to walk to my grandfather\'s deli \"Franks\" at Locust & Bloyd Streets for lunch on occasion. Remembering standing right on the line, to get Sisters\' schoolbag, when she came out from the convent. And, who can forget the May Procession, outside?. We all lined up I the school yard. My mother lived at 900 E. Rittenhouse street. She was married at IC in 1950 ( as were her 2 other sisters); I was baptized ther and my grandmother\'s funeral mass was there in 1970. When I visited my grandmother we would always walk to church. I loved IC it was such a beautiful church.

I remember a lot about Germantown, I now live in New Hampshire, Im sorry about the parish closing in 2012, the same happened to Cardinal Dougherty as well

I am so happy that we have this type of vehicle to post and keep in touch with those of you whose paths we have crossed over the years. My two sisters Margaret (Peggy) Cattie and Elizabeth (Betty) Gambale were all married at the Immaculate in 1970, we will celebrate 45 years of marriage next year (2015) and I had wished we would have been able to go back to the church to attend Mass. I have a large crowd of buddies: Jack Brennan (Stockton Rd); Dick Riegler; Joe McCartin (Brush Rd); Dom Cupo; Ralph Barrella (Haines St.); Ricky Gallagher (Anderson St.); Bill McKee (Rittenhouse St.); John Dougherty (Price St.) just to name a few. We all attended Immaculate and to this day, we still get together for lunch, dinner, go on cruises etc. We have been doing this for many years and we keep in touch with E-Mails or Phone. When we get together, we often talk about the \"good ole days\" and how we wish we had them to return to. I can be found on Facebook or e-mail. Please continue to add your comments and up-dates, we all look forward in hearing from you.

My birth occurred at Germantown Hospital in Dec. 1941.
I resided at 1333 E. Haines St. until my marriage in 1962. IC was the parish church in which I was baptized, made my First Penance & First Communion, was confirmed and married. In 1968 (?) the home that held so many memories & hosted so many family and neighborhood gatherings was razed as was the entire block of neighboring homes. It was to be the site of the new MLK School. Now that our home on Haines Street no longer physically exists; that IC is officially closed, I, too will close this chapter in my life; but I will always have fond memories of my life in Germantown. \"They can\'t take that away from me.\"

I have many fond memories of Immaculate Conception. I remember when I first came to the school in 1961, I was assigned to the fourth grade class in the Annex Building. At the time, I was the only African American little girl in the class and I was quite nervous. My teacher, Sister Maryellen, a very petite nun took me by the hand and introduced me to the class. After that, I felt comfortable and all my nervousness dissipated. I think of her often.

East Queen Lane -( at Present on Crittenden Street)

I originally lived on East Queen Lane but after marriage lived on Crittenden Street right down from the Park on Haines Street and I still live there today. I totally miss Immaculate especially when I need to drive past there on Sunday to go to the Shrine for Mass. I can\'t believe that this beautiful church is closed and an older, much in need of repair, St. Vincents remains open. It just doesn\'t make sense to me.

Grange Street

This is such a great web site! I visited IC Church last year. I cried to hear the news of its closing. This will always be my home Church. I hope they keep it as a historical landmark.

My Mom grew up on Church Lane & my Dad grew up on McMahon St.

The Immaculate is where my parents married, where we said farewell to my Gram & Pop-pop. That was our parish, our rock. The most beautiful church in Philadelphia.

I attended St. Athanasius from 2nd grade to 8th grade and was married there. I knew very many people from IC as I went to Cardinal Dougherty HS. So sorry to hear of her closing and my regrets to all who attended. I have been back to St. A's for reunions and loved the old neighborhood. I have lived in Florida since 1976, Perhaps someone from IC will recognize my maiden name. Best wishes to all!

I'm trying to "virtually" meet people who lived in lower Germantown (who likely went to St. Francis' or St. Michael's; I would even like to hear from Immaculate Conception alumni) and moved from the neighborhood back in the 60's, 70's, or thereabouts. I moved to W. Rockland St. in 1981 and still live there. I am interested in both the anecdotal and factual history of the area. I love family and neighborhood stories as well as information about places that are no more - stores, schools, churches, etc. Also, I am particularly interested in issues connected to "changing neighborhoods" - how are people's lives affected when neighborhoods dramatically change? Also, what are the various causes underlying such rapid change in a neighborhood? Oh, and I really love old photographs.

I was reminded today of the IC closing by my friend Fr. Mike Gallagher (IC 1957) at Holy Mass in St. Peter's Church, Queenstown, MD. I'm not a parishioner but graduated from St. Aloysius, then St. Pius X in Pottstown, PA. I worked at and attended Temple and went to several weddings at IC. It is, indeed, a very beautiful parish. I am so sorry it is closing and wish all current and former staff and parishioners many Blessings. Have thoroughly enjoyed viewing your outstanding web site over the last two days. Thanks so much.
