September’s partial lunar eclipse will be the first and only
time the Moon ducks into Earth’s umbral shadow in 2024.
The Moon also occults Saturn and hides members of the
Pleiades this month.

UT = Universal Time on 9/18/24;
EDT = Eastern Daylight Time on 9/17/24;
CDT = Central Daylight Time on 9/17/24
Partial eclipse begins
2:12 (UT) / 11:12 p.m.; (EDT) / 10:12 p.m. (CDT)
Mid-eclipse
2:44 (UT) / 11:44 p.m. (EDT) / 10:44 p.m. (CDT)
Partial eclipse ends
3:17 (UT) / 12:17 a.m. (EDT) / 11:17 p.m. (CDT)

As eclipses go, this one is minor with a magnitude of
just 0.09, meaning Earth's shadow will cover just 9%
of the Moon's diameter at mid-eclipse.
