SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Polaris Challenge Day 2

After yesterday's brutal sunshine I now have tanned skin on my head through my helmet - I am badger-like. My legs remain stoically untanned (factor 30 helped)

Today was mainly dry with a few short lived showers, but great biking weather. Checkpoints often hidden away in woods and in fields.

Today's stats:-

Calories burned: 2200
Miles: 37
Points: 185
Ascent: 2900 feet
Time: 4 hours 47 mins

Points total: 395 (overall winner got 770!) - didn't have quite enough time to get that last 5 pointer on a hilltop.

Position: 31st in class (male vets)

Not a bad weekend. Even the beer and the band were good!

Re: Polaris Challenge Day 2

Pat - I just checked the website - I was 26th on Day 2 in Male Vets!

Overall, I beat the scores of all of the U21's!!

I think I suit Day 2's much better

See you Thurs.
