SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Paging Mr Pasty

Hi Tom, I know your into Orienteering, ive just done an event down at Cheriton nr Winchester and had a good time and may I confess much more fun than racing. I know you did the Polaris challange is their any more locally that you might know of?... cheers Shelton the mountain goat!...

Re: Paging Mr Pasty

Hi Shelton,

Glad you enjoyed it!

Best thing to do is to search for Trailquest or similar style events in the area. Trailquests are usually one day long MTB orienteering events and are held all over the country.

There's also Trailbreak Events who run the Fat Tyre Navigator Racing events - none on the calendar at the moment, though.

Lastly there's my BIG adventure - I'll probably run another later in the year.
