SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Need a Tora 302 poplock compression damper...

Mine has gradually broken, first the return spring broke, and now it seems to release to half lock.

Can any of you guys in the LBSs help me out?

Cheers,
BC.

Re: Need a Tora 302 poplock compression damper...

Hi Cam
From memory, I think there was a batch issue with a load of damping cartridges on this fork model. Is it original equipment on a bike from about 2008 (or an OE fork sold aftermarket by a certain big internet retailer)? If so, I'd guess your fork has this issue. You'd be best advised to contact the retailer, who should be able to get a replacement from Fishers, the Rock Shox Distributor. Be warned though, if it came from Merlin Cycles online, they probably won't touch it, as it may be a grey import.
I know Townsends did a few swaps on Scott bikes, so they will know how to do the work. Also, Station Cycles at Histon have a pretty knowledgeable mechanic. Hope this helps.

It was online from Merlin. Already had to replace the rebound damper, so no problem doing the work - just need the part...
