DISCLAIMER. MOUNTAIN BIKING CAN BE DANGEROUS. YOU JOIN US AT YOUR OWN RISK.

SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Alternative Shorter Ride Than Oakington?

I fancy a ride on tues evening. Oakington is a long way out and home for me in the mud. OK in summer but I'll struggle in winter. If anyone else is in the same boat and is interested in a ride that finishes closer to Cambridge. You are welcome to join me. cheers

I'm up for that Tom.

Re: Alternative Shorter Ride Than Oakington?

Hi Tom
I'm up for a shorter ride too...

Re: Alternative Shorter Ride Than Oakington?

Me too, although I'm wrestling with a cold, so I may only get as far as the sofa.

Re: Alternative Shorter Ride Than Oakington?

I will probably join you as well Tom. Although Oakington is OK for me getting home, I'm not sure my legs will manage normal race pace & distance.

Re: Alternative Shorter Ride Than Oakington?

Sounds like you fellas are wimping out, surely if a ride is on the calender then you should be doing it as you are letting your fellow riders down. After all see it as more of a challange or maybe you dont want to get your mtb's dirty?. Nuff said...

Larry You are Correct!!!

Larry You are Correct. The alternative proposition is only for those who would otherwise have stayed at home and not gone riding. Please those who were thinking of going to Oakington keep Lonely Larry company.

Cheers

Re: Alternative Shorter Ride Than Oakington?

The sofa wins, but I just bought a second hand oxygen chamber off ebay (smells a bit of chimps, but seems ok), so hope to recover for Thursday's shenanigans.

Re: Larry You are Correct!!!

Can't. I've got a cold too. Just waiting for the snotty phase to start.....oh, there you go.
