SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

A summer challenge

anyone who has 75mins spare may like to watch this.

http://www.zapiks.com/megavalanche-2010-helmet-cam-1.html.

would i be correct in thinking Uncle Tom rode this a couple of years back?

may be just a bit ambitious for me. Unless you are all willing to sponsor my entries for commedy off's of the year, and an extended stay in France's finest hospitals

Re: A summer challenge

Why not im game if you are Pat. Anyone got a Scott Ransom or a Spesh big hit they could lend me?...

Re: A summer challenge

I think Uncle Tom rides (or rids, even) it most years and has all of the body armour and bike to compete with the best.

Pat should surely try it on his Spark, a bike made for the Megavalanche if ever there was one!

Re: A summer challenge

Spark, made of plastic, going from ice to open trail, across rocks, tarmac road, forest singletrack! it wouldn't last 10 mins! if i can break a suspension bolt in Thetford (several times) on the flat, what chance would it stand in a full on Alpine downhill race?

now if anyone wants to lend me an Orange Alpine 160...... size extra large of course......i could be persuaded to keep Uncle Tom company on a run down the hill.

Re: A summer challenge

clem has also competed in said event.... Even though his pace forks 'blew a seal' ?? He came 2nd on an orange space hopper (or so the legendary tale is told)
