SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Polaris....so far

As I type, Tone and I are having a few beers, watching the band, looking forward to a night when we can sleep and not have to get up and do another circuit.

At half time we lay 103rd overall - the bloke leading must have done twice as many miles and perhaps had a whole box of amphetamines. But, unlike him, I'm under doctor's orders to take it easy.

Five more hours tomorrow, so off to sleep soon. Update later.

Polaris.....completed

What a day we've had. A superb sunny day and perfect for riding. We devised a plan and stuck to it coming in with 10 mins left. We were 68th placed on the day and finished overall in 76th place out of 165.

We covered more miles, used more calories, climbed more and outscored our efforts on rainy Saturday.

Recommended.

speaking of books - they were flogging the one that Dom supplied photo's for. I liked the look of the Black route around Fulbourn.
