SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Weekend ride?

Anyone fancy a weekend ride? (Having managed to miss both evening rides this week...).

I have a route in mind out beyond Royston to Clothall and back run by getting the train to Ashwell and Morden. This'll work out at circa 25 - 30 miles (as opposed to the > 50 of riding it all)

As far as I can tell, the Bank Holiday engineering work doesn't affect trains north of Hitchin. I was thinking of getting the 9.55 from Cambridge/10.05 from Foxton to Ashwell, then riding home.

Either Sat or Sun suits me - can't do the Monday though.

Any interest?

Paul

Re: Weekend ride?

Sadly not - sounds fun! We're off wild camping in the lake district. The weather looks perfect for that...

Have a good one.

Re: Weekend ride?

Sounds good, Can't do Sat but Sunday is def an option... will call tomo !!

Re: Weekend ride?

Sunday looking much the better option to let the ground dry out a bit!

Re: Weekend ride?

I haven't ridden for two weeks and would love too but work sat so would have to be Sunday. We have a lunch invite to a BBQ so would have to be early?

Re: Weekend ride?

Sunday it is and early suits me - how early though Jon?

Re: Weekend ride - the plan

Should it not be pissing down first thing tomorrow, I'm catching the 8.55 am Kings Cross train to Ashwell and Morden. Snapper's joining at Shepreth. Anyone else who wants to get up indecently early on a Sunday morning welcome!
