DISCLAIMER. MOUNTAIN BIKING CAN BE DANGEROUS. YOU JOIN US AT YOUR OWN RISK.

SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Re;Thursday rides.......

Hi,came across your website and very interested in coming over and doing the Thursday rides.I'm 47 and been riding quite a few years (only leisure, not serious).Coming from St.neots I would obviously have to drive over before and after which isn't a problem so would it be okay to join up next Thursday the 15th,cheers Nick

Re: Re;Thursday rides.......

Hi Nick,

You are very welcome to join us for a ride. Your age won't be any impediment given the group's current demography, indeed it will be nice to talk to a grown-up.

As long as your bike is off-road capable and well maintained then the main thing to bear in mind is lights. I won't repeat the whole posting on lights which is permanently stuck to the top of the forum, but it's well worth a read. If you don't possess capable lights then most of us are geeky enough to have some spares which we should be able to lend.

Our rides this time of year usually encounter a bit of mud so mud tyres are a good choice if you have them. Other than that the usual stuff about wearing a helmet, taking some spares, appropriate clothing and water applies.

Lastly, please ignore those that tell you that all newbies have to buy the beers for the first week that you come out. They're pulling your leg. It's two weeks.

Regards

TOM

Re: Re;Thursday rides.......

For what it's worth I plan to be out on Thursday and if I have my way it will be a chilled slowish ride.

My knee is STILL bust at the moment though so don't know if I will be out.
