SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

It's looking decided dodgy tonight. Patchy rain by 6 pm, heavy rain by 8 pm. And cold and windy.

Assuming this weather turns up, I won't. Anybody else not coming out tonight?

Re: QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

if i get my new gear cable fitted i'm going out, if not then not...see you at the start

Re: QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

Too much rain forecast and too much work to do means not coming out.

Re: QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

not sure fitting a gear cable is a valid excuse for not comming out, the weather is though and thats the one i'm using!

Re: QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

It's also the excuse I'm using so I won't be coming over tonight,I've obviously picked the wrong time of year to join up on the rides.Hopefully I'll be over next week if it's not raining,snowing,icey,windy,etc..

Re: QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

I'm playing the weather card tonight. Actually still getting over slight cold I picked up after last Thursday's 39 miles in sub zero ambient (well that's what it felt like. Good luck to all that venture out

Re: QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

I'm planning on not coming out, and it's a plan I firmly intend to implement successfully.

The woodburning stove is nicely fired up and the mud has no attraction at all.

See you next week when the sun's out, it's 25C and you can just about pick out the trail through the dust gently rising against the sunset...

Re: QH Newton: Out if dry, not if wet

On the grounds that I broke the gear cable on my commuter bike on the way in to work today as well as my MTB gear cable last Friday (I have witnesses).
Well I've fixed the MTB but the commuter is shredded. Got to sort that before work tomorrow.

Not comming out now as the rain looks a bit bad too.
