SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Fecund frolic checkpoints

Here are the checkpoints for Tuesday nights Fecund Frolic. Teams should consist of two people (3 acceptable if there are odd people(!)) Solo riding is not encouraged. I'm not coming to look for you if you don't make it to the pub.

A map showing the waypoints will be available but it will be on a small scale. OS Landranger map 154 or electronic equivalent is recommended for identifying waypoints, some of which may be more familiar than others.

Re: Fecund frolic checkpoints

Hi,

I've been looking for people to ride with, so I'm interested in joining you guys. I wanted to come along last week, but I was covered in bruises and grazes after getting knocked off by a car.

Anyway, what's this ride about? Would it be alright to start with this?

BTW I don't actually have a mountain bike at the moment, so I hope you won't be offended if I ride a cross bike. Cambridgeshire doesn't seem to have much it can't handle...

Mike

Re: Fecund frolic checkpoints

Mike - a cross bike will certainly be fine, especially as surfaces are quite firm at the moment.

The fecund frolic is a slightly competitive night, based on orienteering. Find your way to as many checkpoints as possible in the alloted time (2.5 hours)and get to the designated pub (to be revealed tomorrow). It helps if you know the area when it comes to navigating and recognising the checkpoints but it is not essential. There are long established CamMTBers who get lost with regularity. Hopefully there will be a few teams entering, if you don't find a partner before the event you should be able to join up with someone at the start. These events do have a tendency to be a bit longer and a bit faster than an average ride. You're welcome to join us. I would suggest posting a 'newbie wants a partner message' if you plan to join us.

Re: Fecund frolic checkpoints

Thanks Tony, will do. Just put the off-road tyres on, so I suppose I have to come along.

Tony, just to clarify / double-check - is it intentional that there is no checkpoint 4?

Thanks
Dom

Re: Fecund frolic checkpoints

Absolutely. Checkpoint 4 was very naughty and isn't allowed out.
