SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.
  • Don't ride too close to the person in front. If they crash into a badger, you'll need time to swerve.

The MTBR Forums: Even Worse Than This Place

This one's for all the carbon haters out there...
(you know who you are)

From the MTBR forums, first, this:
The customer service may be great but I would be more concerned with the failures and the hassles of returning broken frames. It’s not only Niner, I’ve read other forums with lots of issues with carbon frames.

Followed by these words of ultimate wisdom:
I’m of the opinion that if you’re not breaking your carbon mtb frame, you’re probably not riding it hard enough. They all break. I’ve got a Stumpjumper carbon HT that broke recently, and its warranty replacement just came. I’m going to ride the shit out of it until it breaks, then I’ll warranty it again. I love the way carbon bikes ride, I love their light weight, and I’ll keep buy/replacing them until frame makers decide that they’re not going to warranty them anymore.
