SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Huntingdon

I recently moved to the area and will be living in Huntingdon. I moved here from Colorado where mountain biking trails were just a stone throw away. I have a 26er Trek hardtail and a Specialized Camber 29er. I am looking for places to ride in the area without having to drive 2 hours to find a good tail. Does anyone have any good recommendations for me?

I am actually in a similar situation to you having recently moved from Virginia and I'm actually just down the road from you near Huntingdon. I've been riding with this group for a few weeks and a little over in Epping Forest. Have to say that so far Thetford Forest is the most similar to the single track I was riding in the States - rode with Cam MTB over there on Thurs. Anyway, hope you can join us and give me a shout if you want to combine transport, do a weekend run etc.
