SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Replacement spindle/bearing cartridges for SPD pedals?

This post could also be titled "Paging Mark T".............

Wondered if replacement spindle/bearing "cartridges" are available for SPD pedals.

Shimano supply a tool PD-140? to enable removal of the spindle/bearing asy from the pedal casting, leading me to think that a replacement may be available. It looks like the same spindle/bearing cartridges is used across a wide range of SPD pedal, so the same rationalisation in production may facilitate just stocking two (LH and RH) service part numbers.

Does anyone know of a source?

Thanks

Re: Replacement spindle/bearing cartridges for SPD pedals?

I've got some unwanted used SPD pedals if that's easier...

Re: Replacement spindle/bearing cartridges for SPD pedals?

Part No: TLPD40 is used to remove the axle and costs £1.99. I have one of these, and use it for servicing pedals from time to time. Most people don't 'service' their pedals until it's too late, but it's actually very easy to do the job.

The complete axle assemblies are available in left and right at £18.99 each (Part No's: 41P 9801 and 41P 9802), which is more than a replacement pair of M520 pedals (and cleats).

Genuine replacement 3/32" bearings are available at £5.99 set of 62 pieces. (Part No: 41N 9803)

Hope this helps.

Brilliant, thanks very much Mark. Hope I'll be seeing you soon to pick up those latex tubes.

No worries.
Hope to be out on Tuesday, so post if you're coming and I'll bring them along.

Cheers!
