SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

(A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

Is the Black Horse @DD definitely going to be open on Thursday? If so, then I shall ride in from Over and have a (shortish) ride home.

Friday's my birthday so I'm definitely up for a ride the night before.

Not out tonight so have a good ride.

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

Website says 6 to 11pm and they have a regular fish and chip night on Thursdays. My guess is it will be open, but could shut early if no trade. Therefore we should aim to get there about 9:15 to 9:30 pm?

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

i'm going to put in an apperance tonight, not so worried about the destination, it's the journy that is important.

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

OK - I will ride into Cambridge then.

Route could be:-

Out to Hardwick on the Wimpole Way;
Blue Bridge path toward Dry Drayton
Turn off this track and take the 'field from hell' to Childerley
Bridleway from Childerley to Lolworth
Lolworth to Bar Hill
Bar Hill to Dry Drayton

OR

Do a route south of the A428 and end up at Hardwick (perhaps out to Harlton Woods, Eversden, Comberton, Hardwick)
Hardwick, Blue Bridge to Dry Drayton

See you there

PT

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

Sounds good, I'll be out.

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

sorry - despite my best intentions looking like I'm not going to be able to make it so don't wait around for me.

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

Alas, not I
Packing and trying to become unexplainably deaf for tomorrow's transcontinental trip to Costa del Swanage

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

Brilliant route PT. great to do stuff in reverse. Hope all returned home intact. Does Pete F remember when we used to meet there in the early 2000s a chap called Malcolm would b there first, having arrived on his tricycle. He was fond of a large glass of red. Jacob knew him. It was more "CTC" in those days.

Re: (A bit early, but) Thursday Night Ride

Hi Pete,
Do you mean Malcolm stop me and buy one on his bicycle to tricycle conversion?
Still occasionally see him around town.
I think THE situation of all time at Dry Drayton has to be when (Northern Ionica) Maarrrrtin turned up 30 mins or so later than the rest of us rather wet and whiffy after ejecting into a deep ditch full of yuk.
Nearly as much laid in folklore as his now almost never to be repeated...
'As enyone seen Marr saddle? '

Those we're the days! My friend, I thought they'd never end.... (ahem)
