SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Lakes weekend 15th/16th July

As posted previously on the FB group, I am planning a biking weekend in the Lakes for 15th & 16th July. I'll be staying self-catering with family in Bowness for a week, but I have a pass to go biking over the weekend

Last year PeteF and I did a ride from Grizedale and another one around Kentmere, including Garburn Pass. Lots of places to camp / B&B as you would expect. Pete camped near Coniston / Torver last year which would probably be a good location again for the rides I have in mind this time.

Let me know if you'd like to come along. Pete is definitely interested again and Barry has expressed an interest. A few others Liked my post on FB but not sure if that's an indication of intended attendance.

Cheers,

Richard

I am still interested. You say that you have a pass, is that difficult to get? How do I go about to get it?

Cheers

Barry,

To be honest, yes, the pass can be extremely difficult to obtain, particularly for a full weekend! Your best option is probably to start with this and amend accordingly...

Richard,

What is it with that 100 feet nonsense?

Re: Lakes weekend 15th/16th July

Yep, will try and make this - be good to see some old faces again!

Cheers

It's a while since I originally posted about this Lakes weekend, but just to confirm it's definitely on. If anyone else wants to join myself, PeteF, Rick, Barry, Paul Digard, Dom & Alison and maybe Andy & Anna, please drop me an email and I'll add you to the distribution for full details.

We're staying in Coniston, Paul's in a B&B, the rest of us are camping. Two days of classic Lake District mountain biking planned, should be a great weekend!
