SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Re: Need an extension to the short term runs list for this week.....

I believe Pasty has a cunning plan.

Re: Need an extension to the short term runs list for this week.....

What is Lord Pastey of Over's plan?

Re: Need an extension to the short term runs list for this week.....

The cunning plan is to 'socialise' the runslist, i.e. ask people which pubs they want to go to.

I've been contacting people over the last few days and have plenty of destinations slotted into dates but still have four gaps - Duncan et al, please can you help me fill those? Maximum of two per person.

Of those destinations received so far, I have randomised them to the various dates, but kept some slots fixed for Thetford Forest (full moon nights) and the Christmas Party which I have provisionally set for the 15th December.

Tuesday rides have been set to the Blue Ball and the Coton Plough on alternate weeks (other than a couple of Thetford slots), the idea being to make Tuesdays slightly more attractive by finishing the rides closer to Cambridge. Regardless, both of those pubs also appear on Thursdays.

This Thursday it's the Plough and Fleece, Horningsea.

I'll now post up the list, albeit provisional until those 'TBC's have been filled by Duncan and others. It really doesn't matter if those pubs already appear in the list - just put in the pubs you would like to go to.

Re: Need an extension to the short term runs list for this week.....

All seems very good!!
As far as the plough and fleece is concerned, I love the pub ...BUT I think they are very early closing poss 9pm. I have been there this year before their advertised closing time on a Sunday pm to find them closed.
If this is so I guess we can go to one of the two establishments in Fen Ditton....unless their closed, Green Dragon?!?...unless that's closed. The Carlton Arms....oooof, suites you sir (it's always open):grinning:
I wonder if this has ever happened on one of Tony's rides???

Re: Need an extension to the short term runs list for this week.....

Aha - you're RIGHT. Closes at 9pm tonight.

Alternatives in Fen Ditton are the Plough - closes at 10 pm, the Ancient Shepherds - closes at 10:30 pm.

@ Tony (who chose it) - please let me know and I will update the list.

Re: Need an extension to the short term runs list for this week.....

If the Plough shuts at 10.00 I'll knock a couple of miles off the route I had in mind. Skinny Arms won't be opening tonight!

Re: Need an extension to the short term runs list for this week.....

I'm planning on riding (slowly!)
