SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Re: New Member - First Ride questions

Hi Kirsten

Yes, we always meet at Japas - unless it's a Thetford night, in which case we meet at Thetford. To be honest the Tuesday rides are more aspirational than reality at the moment so I wouldn't recommend turning up as you may well be alone. Thursdays are much better attended.

Those of us that live in or around town ride home after the pub. Yes, it can be quite late sometimes but these days pubs don't stay open as long as they used to.

It's always worth checking the forum before heading out to see if anyone is coming and to post here yourself to say you are planning to ride.

It's worth bearing in mind that Cambridgeshire at night in the winter is not exactly the same as NZ but it can be fun and is definitely good exercise

Re: New Member - First Ride questions

Hi,

Thanks for the heads up! I'm going to have to get my bike from my brother's house so I won't be able to turn up until Thursday.

I'm not expecting NZ conditions and I just want to get better at bike handling and improve my basic skills to be honest so I'm happy to do trail riding round Cambridge.

See you! I'll post in advance of leaving.

Kirsten
