SAFETY BRIEFING.

  • Wear a helmet. Despite recent advances in medical science, brains still cannot be mended nor replaced.
  • Wear gloves or mitts. Hands often hit the ground first. Cuts and grazes invite infection and a hospital visit.
  • Wear eye protection, it only takes a twig or thorn to lose an eye. Crud catchers are a good idea in mucky weather.
  • When downhilling, for your own protection, allow plenty of space behind the rider in front.
  • Bring a bare minimum emergency tool kit and a spare inner tube.
  • Breakdowns are a bore. Plan not to have any by ensuring your bike is in perfect working order.
  • Punctures are also tedious. You can minimise them by fitting latex tubes, slime tubes or running tubeless tyres.

Dropper Post and Head Angle Slackening

Hi All,

After riding on the Cannock Chase trails recently, I was considering making a couple of changes to my Litespeed Niota.

Firstly, I've been considering a dropper post for a while, but put off by the additional weight, if I'm honest. But what are your experiences? Do you use them on the gnarly trails? How much drop should I be considering? Looking at possibly the Brand-X Ascend or Ascend XL, with an external cable routing as mine is an older frame.

Secondly, I was considering ways to slacken the head angle, which is currently in the region of 69 degrees. I'm probably looking at offset bushings for the shock or an angle headset. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

PT
