When are you visiting Gambia next?

I was in Gambia June 2013 and will be returning next....

Do you have any comments?

My Gambian experience!!!

Gambia is a wonderful place to visit etc,as the people are beautiful, kind and easy going. The endless beaches are a dream to spend time on especially on Sunday's.

I liked the off season period,no crowds of people and you more or less have the place to yourself and get more attention with service, plus better bargaining prices with the street traders.

The food is great and in expensive from the late night local vendors of Serrekunda's fried fish, spagehetti and chips takeaway's and Senagamgia's Omelette and pompittre'(potatoe) blend YUMMMM!,

to the mid-range price's of Kairaba avenue restaurants like La Parisenne- I had the Lady fish with rice, and Caesar's restaurant- Butter fish meal and local Baobab juice delicious and filling,

to the more lush priced Hotels like Lgala lodge- of which I had the Butter fish dish not forgetting the two live musician's in the background playing and singing their own version of Bob Marley's 'One Love'!!! very entertaining,

and Ocean Bay- I had the Ladyfish dish again, which appeared with three handsomely dressed Gambian waiters,
a beautiful sight to see of which I had to pause them for a photo before serving us. With the dishes lined along their arms in great splendour and form.

All still affordable when compared with the £ pound sterling. I only it fish and my first meal was Lady fish which is now one of my favourite fish to eat in Gambia.

Tours to: Roots,Juffureh Island has great knowledgeable homeland tour guides such as my now good friend Saikou a 9th generation descendant of the Kunta Kinte tribe family. But I was not personally impressed with the museums display and lack of histrical artefacts on the slave trade, it was like non-existent considering the what happened to Kunta Kinte and other un-named African's who suffered centuries ago in slavery....

The boat ride to the island was pleasant and very relaxing with lunch on board and plenty of cold drinks to cool you down. The uncrowded top deck front seats was for me, the best viewing place for the 2hr journey.

And Makasutu wow is all I can say about this place,a lovely retreat. The baboons walk around the grounds freely happily play fighting and you can get up close to them if they allow you to. We had a brilliant tour guide Omar to show us around and give the most interesting account and background of the Makasutu forest.

The Mandina lodge is spectacular and reminds of the old English 14th & 15th century Kings and Queens living quarters with all it's grand furnishings.

The food served was also a delight and the owner Linda was very accommadating with showing us around the beautiful floating lodges as well as assisting me with taking many sun spoiling personal photos of and me alone inside(my secretly privately owned ) the lodges for the day , Thank you Linda it was a fun day!! and so was my stay in The Gambia, thank you Oggis, Emmanuel, Osman from Lana's Bar and many more good friends met along the way...

I have been to Gambia last week, in fact we are back 3 days ago. We syated in a very luxuary hotel Coco Ocean niet ver van Senegambia. Beautiful counntry and even more beautiful people. Nice and smiling, so Smiling Coast. I love the people over there. I met some nice people and I would love to send them every now and then a paccage, but it is so expensive to send it. I find it a pity that it is so expensive. Do you know a way of doing this for less? I would send things to them every now and then.In fact I live in Belgium. Go to Gambia and see the real life!

I am visiting the Gambia with my husband for the first time in March. It will be our first time to Africa. We visited Egypt last year and took some pens and sweets with us for the schools, and again the same with Sri Lanka. I understand sweets arent the best thing to take to Africa so what is ?? I have been searching the net for ideas and have noticed that vegetable seeds and school resources are some of the best things to pack into your suitcase for them. I would really appreciate any other ideas of what to take, please remember its gonna have to fit in a suitcase and cant be too heavy ! This is a dream of mine to visit The Gambia and want to give just as much as i am goin to gain from this holiday

There is a game called Worro in Gambia, but its rules are very different. You have stolen the rules from a modern variant called Kalah. Obviously you don't know your own games!

It has been a few years since my last visit, but I still think of GTS and Gambia, with very fond memories. True it IS a love it or hate it place (Gambia that is, not the GTS bar!! whats not to love about that little gem of a place ) But if you love it, you always remember your times there with a smile XX
